Interlock Fabric

Interlock fabric is a type of double-knit fabric known for its stability, durability, and versatility. It is commonly used in the textile industry for various applications, including clothing, sportswear, baby garments, and home textiles.

Interlock fabric is created by interlocking two layers of jersey fabric together, resulting in a double-layered, reversible fabric. It is produced using two sets of needles on a circular knitting machine, with each set knitting in the opposite direction. This interlocking construction gives the fabric its characteristic properties.

Characteristics of Interlock fabric include:

  1. Thickness: Interlock fabric is thicker and more substantial compared to single jersey fabric. The two layers of knitted fabric create a denser structure, providing better insulation and warmth

  2. Stability: Interlock fabric has excellent dimensional stability and minimal stretch. It retains its shape well and resists sagging or stretching out of shape over time.

  3. Reversible: Both sides of the interlock fabric look the same, allowing for reversible garments where either side can be used as the face of the fabric.

  4. Softness: Interlock fabric is often soft and comfortable against the skin, making it suitable for sensitive or delicate applications such as baby clothing

  5. Durability: Due to its double-layered construction, interlock fabric tends to be more durable and resistant to tearing compared to single jersey fabric.

  6. Breathability: While not as breathable as single jersey fabric, interlock fabric still offers reasonable breathability, allowing air circulation and moisture management.

Interlock fabric is commonly used for a variety of garments such as T-shirts, polo shirts, dresses, skirts, loungewear, and base layers. It is also popular for baby clothing, blankets, bedding, and towels due to its softness and durability. Additionally, interlock fabric can be found in certain technical/function applications, including medical textiles and performance sportswear.
